Junior and Siren at the academy

::SIren was exhausted after getting something eat and being allowed back into the castle they were told as meetings were taking place they must pack their things and head to Berulan to mingle with the other students at the magical academy there as well as practice their spells and spar with the others there.

SIren was overwhelmed and held onto the back of Junior's shirt. She didn't want him to be out of her sight, She didn't quite know what to expect and she felt completely out of her comfort zone.:::

In nearly diametrically opposed thoughts Junior was looking forward to meeting the other students while learning more about his craft. He let Siren hang onto him, him being the rock in her turbulent sea of emotions. Much like Ashmire, he was able to thrum softly, to keep her from going to pieces. It wasn’t a bad role to be in, especially since she liked to lean up against him, and she did smell nice.

~~It’ll be fun,~~ he insisted. ~~You’ll make new friends in no time.~~

There would be a gentle bop to the top of Siren's head from Onyx as she stood behind the two. "Will you calm down this is hardly going to be any different than when old Claw trains you two. Besides this is also not going to be a permanent thing and will only be taking place on days that Clawrift cannot train you due to more pressing duties."

::Siren let go of Junior's shirt to rub the bump on the top of her head before nodding. "yes ma'am, We are not going to be staying here tonight then?" Siren was not keen on a sleepover but she tried to keep herself upbeat for Junior. He seemed to be excited and he knew he was right about making a new batch of friends in no time. She wondered who some of the other students were.:::::

Onyx simply sighed.  "No you will not be staying overnight.  Nor will you ever need to worry about that.  There are a lot of students here that commute using the 'port network.   For today all we're doing is having you two visit and take a look around so you know where everything is at.  After all it wouldn't do for the two of you to look like a couple lost little lambs whenever you come here.

However I will give the both of you a word of advice in advance.  Always remember that your primary mentor is Lord Clawrift and while you should take pride in that fact know that there may be some trainees, and even staff, that may try to give you grief about it regardless of how much we try to teach them that such actions have no place in our mage orders.  Some may think you two are full of yourselves due to your status as Lord Clawrift's direct students.  Should anyone give you any trouble do not sully Lord Clawrift's name by reacting rashly.  Always remain calm and inform one of us through your psi-comm units and we will handle it.

Should whatever little upstart press the matter kindly remind them that if they have issue with you then they should take it up directly with Lord Clawrift or any of the Solem'cleavu royal family.  If they wish to go as far as challenge either one of you to a duel then kindly accept it and make sure it gets officially recognized and sanctioned by academy leadership with a member of the royal guard division present as witness.  Then come find me and I will gladly stand in for you as your proxy as allowed by the dueling code if either of you feel that you won't be able to win due to your current skill.  However things should end at the recommendation that they take it up with Lord Clawrift or my family."

At least Junior didn’t chuckle at Siren’s misfortune in having her head bopped.  It could be annoying, but then the ice dragon was being unusually dour.  Usually she was the one that wanted to be out and about, but of late her moods were swinging from pole to pole at a quicker pace.  He had hoped that the idea of meeting more students trying to learn magic much like they were would give her incentive, along with making her feel more.. what?  Human?  Dragon even?

Of course there was now the added pressure of being Lord Clawrift’s “special” students.  Junior wouldn’t have thought it so much being “lofty” being under his tutelage; more like the fact that the mutant needed all the help he could get.  He had long odds against him that he would amount to any sort of wizard.  Now he had to deal with bullying as well?  And with Siren’s short temper?  And Onyx was Condoning any duel issued forth as well?

Maybe this wasn’t such a cool idea after all.

Still he held up his chin.  “We’ll behave ourselves,” he promised, hoping that he’d be able to keep that promise.  All they were doing was touring the facilities today, right?

What could go wrong?

Onyx reached over and just messed with Junior's hair a bit.  "I have no doubt that you two will behave yourselves it's the others I'm worried about.  I know I probably made the whole situation sound worse than it actually is but honestly you may not even have any issues with the short amount of times you both are going to be here at any given time.  I just had to mention all of that so you know what to possibly expect.  On the other side of the coin you two may also get those who may try to suck up to you to try and get in better favor with Lord Clawrift and the Solem'cleavu royal family.  Although I'm sure with your talents Junior you'll be able to weed out those that genuinely want to be your friend and those that are merely trying to suck up to improve their own social standing.

However another piece of advice regarding that.  Be friendly towards those you feel just want to use you for their own gain but do not let them control your actions and do not give in to any requests they make without making sure of who is to benefit from such an action.  Again this may have sounded like worse of a situation than it actually is but as you will be socializing in general with your fellow students as you learn it is best that you keep all of this in mind."

::Siren's  eyes had widen a little at the idea of beng bullied but than narrowed again as thoughts went whizzing through her head. She was always thinking but she suddenly stood up straighter and fixed her robes. She was not a coward nor was she an easy target and she surveyed her surroundings  a bit more as she took in her measure as well as the measurements of the area around her. She strode forward..."Well who is leading this tour? I for one wish to get started, Junior and I had best wade on in to the sea of student here at the academy. I am sure we will have smooth sailing and if not than I shall do what I must to calm the storms." Her green eyes were glinting with mischief as she than said."I will be on my very best behavior."::::::

((yeah let this one slip to the wayside, sorry about that Star but I was also waiting for some word from you that you were able to post again))

Onyx simply nodded when both of the little ones said that they'd behave themselves.  "See that you do since that was a direct order from Lord Clawrift promising swift consequences for anyone who doesn't follow it."  At that point she started walking leading the other two further into the building.  While she was occasionally pointing out this section or that for the most part she was just leading them around so they could get a feel of the layout of the place.

He seemed pretty much resigned at being the run around, and it wasn’t lost on him that this was probably the role the Rex and other males found themselves in, stomping out fires before they could burn the village down.  But that was neither here or now.  Now Junior was just as interested in seeing their new surroundings as well.  It wasn’t much different from the castle.  It wasn’t As grand or as lavish, and there were more classrooms and study halls, along with several libraries following several modes of magic.  Junior could well be lost in just one for hours, and it seemed that several students were likewise studying as well; some even working on small enough spell, though the oak tables told a tale or two where one spell or another went awry.

In all he found the place… comfortable…

There just was no winning for losing.

At least he would be able to sense when somebody was trying to snow him.  He might not be a full grade telepath; he probably was more like Uncle Ashmire than anyone in that regard; but he was just as able to read body posture and tell tale signs that somebody wasn’t being fully honest.  If he was able to somehow navigate around those looking for a leg up or to take advantage of the duo there would be less of Siren “asserting” herself.

He didn’t believe for one minute that she would remain on her best behavior, at least for long.  He now pitied anyone that thought to boss her around, though he was just as equally sure that they would end up getting in trouble.  Watching Siren’s demeanor and posturing change told Junior that her mood had shifted once again, from meek to mighty would be his guess.

Siren was following right along with Lady Oynx and she stopped at the door of one library where it was all hushed up and dark. The students were working with skeletons and such and Siren asked Lady Oynx in a hushed voice...."I thought that these types of wizardry were forbidden here, what are they learning in such a dismal, dark, place?" Siren had only recently reclaimed her dominance over the dark. Ever since Tristan had abducted her, she had been scared of dark places and also of long corridors and passages. Chalk up another emotional scar to Tristan Rex. She reached out and squeezed Junior's hand briefly to let him know she was alright and he need not worry about her.::::

"Hmm?  What form of wizardry are you talking about?"  It was then that Onyx looked into the library that Siren was interested in.  "Oh... one moment."  Conjuring a small globe of light before just tossing it into the room.  Soon afterwards there was an even brighter flash as well as a thunderclap-like sound and after it had died back down she re-activated the lighting spells in the room.  Then she poked her head into the room.  "Will you morons quit working in the dark?  You're scaring the new students."

Turning back to Siren with a sigh.  "This is a group of students from the holy order side of things.  That skeleton is a fake one designed for study and testing purposes and these idiots like to study it in the dark when they know there are new students in the area, just ignore them."  With another sigh she just turned and resumed walking.

Junior had let Siren clamp down on his hand as her fear was almost resonating through him, causing bile to rise up in his throat.  It took him a moment to gather himself before he was able to transmit that soothing vibration that would calm her down as well.  He hadn’t been upset by the darkened room; he’d merely assumed they were doing some sort of study that required dark, like working on a glow spell or something, but when Onyx furnished her own globe that that did its own-flash/bang effect, he’d jumped much like everyone else except their escort.

Afterwhich he hurried behind her as they moved along.  Clearly he was going to have to be wary; it seemed that the students like to play practical jokes as well.  He was going to have to do double duty to keep Siren from going off on them if they insisted on pranking her.

::Siren arched a brow and as they left she turned back and pretended to sneeze freezing the floor into a sheet of ice. She snickered as several of the students jumped out of the way of the ice sheet before she resumed her dignified and innocent expression as they followed Oynx further into the tour. Siren was beginning to think that this might be fun.:::::

All in all the tour wouldn't go on much longer.  After Onyx had shown them around they actually ended up in the rather large mess hall of the academy.  Onyx just taking a seat at the end of one of the longer tables herself before waving the two younger ones over.  "That will be about it for this tour.  We will probably do some kind of formal meet and greet with your instructors and possibly the headmaster of this academy once we decide on which instructors will be in charge of your lessons on the days that you are here.  So any questions so far?"

Junior was filled with them, but managed to keep from bombarding Onyx with the array of thoughts that had struck him during their wandering of the halls.  “Will we be studying the same spells?  Will we need to be in some remedial class until we’ve caught up if we do?  Or will we have a different curriculum?”  He managed to hold back the rest of the questions until he got a few answers.

Onyx just thought about that for a second before replying.  "Well for the most part I believe old Claw has been trying to teach you two at the same rate that the academy is so during the times that you will be here you shouldn't need much catch up work.  Really all the classwork relates to is arcane theory as well as the strategic or tactical uses of various types of magic.  Real learning comes from the doing.  As in you don't really start learning how to put that knowledge together until you are actually performing your spells in combat as such practice spars go on all the time here."

::Siren than asked Lady Oynx a question which had come to mind.."Will we han be sparring with the other arcane students here? I thought Lord Clawrift just wanted us to use the sparing fields , but it seems he wants us to join the student population."..She was confused but was thinking perhaps the situation with Dr. Doom might be taking up alot of the master mage's time.:::::

Junior’s fears were slightly mollified; they weren’t going to hold back a class, nor get the differential treatment.  In fact he sort of was looking forward in sparring with other classmates.  “We should spar with them,” he agreed, seeing some of the logic in it.  “We won’t be able to pick and chose who we fight in the field.  The more we practice with different people, the better.”

((Well my bad, I just kinda forgot all about this one thinking one of you guys still needed to post something))

Onyx had merely nodded at Siren's question.  "Yes you will be sparring with other students here but only students from the Mage Order curriculum, you will not be facing off against any students from the Holy Order side of things as the Holy Order has their own procedures for practicing what they have learned.  Namely their students will be present during every spar you have to treat any injuries."

She did give yet another nod after she was done speaking this time though it was an approving nod to Junior.  "You have the right of it.  As with any other soldier in our military you will not always have the freedom to pick and choose your targets for annihilation as such with these sparring sessions your opponent will also be chosen at random.  However in your practice spars against each other as well as against Lord Clawrift and myself, even if we were going a little easy on you both, both of you have lasted longer than expected so I do not see much issue with either of you surpassing expectations during these sparring sessions."

::Siren nodded as Lady Oynx spoke but than she jumped in as she always did.."Lady Oynx will we be allowed to spar on the fields today?, With the tour and all the new changes to our schedule I wasn't sure if Lord Clawrift wishes us to spar today or just mingle with the student population." Siren may have some wild mood swings like her sister but she also had a large dose of diplomacy. Siren had her book with her so she could study if the desicion was to settle in and just mingle. She could mingle in a library or out in the courtyard, she wanted to be ready when she faced a new opponet and show the professors here why she was one of Lord Clawrift's students.:::::

As much as Junior might well have liked to test his mettle on the first day, it probably wouldn’t be right to attempt to clash with the student body, at least right out of the gate.  He did want to see the area and perhaps get an idea of what he could use to his advantage during any such engagements.  Maybe he and Siren could spar a little, if just to have her work out some of that nervous energy, and maybe show some of his future dance partners that he wasn’t a wimp.  Apparently Lady Onyx though he did well enough against them to take this next step.

Besides it wouldn’t all be fighting.  He imagined there would be more bookwork than anything, then probably incorporate his lessons into more tangible ones. Still.  “Can we look closer to the fields?”

::Siren waited for an answer from Lady Oynx on weather they could see the fields and spar together or sit down and eat lunch and mingle with the others. She stay quiet allowing Lady Oynx time to think their request through but her anticipation was clearly visible in her expressive green eyes.::::

Onyx stood up at that point as she nodded to the two of them.  "Today is mostly just a tour so neither of you will be allowed to spar with anyone today so you can just save that for when you actually start attending courses here.  However we can at least go look at the fields however we will need to exit the city for that for there are no practice fields within it."

Leading them out of the academy building and to a nearby portal she did stop and turn to the two.  "Pop quiz, can either of you tell me how our teleportation network functions and how each teleportation terminal such as this one are connected to one another?"

::Siren hazarded an answer.."Aren't they powered using some sort of crystal that everyone seems to have made into a lapel pin or a headset or some such thing." She knew that mutants had problems using magic and so the crystals helped keep them from being fried during teleportation.::::
