Magi-Technology, or Magitek as it is commonly referred to as, is quite simply the blending of magic and technology. However that is a very broad definition of the term as current magic items, such as magical swords and amulets and the like, are a form of physical technology in and of themselves. Having brought that to mind the actual and more specific definition of Magitek is the utilization of magic energy to power and bring to life complex technological machinery whereas the aforementioned magic swords and the like are defined more as mere magic items as they are not physically complex machines.

 

Now before I get started with the explanation of this technological feat I must give credit where credit is due. Quite frankly it must be admitted that we would not have ability to create this technology at all if it wasn't for the Vashtalian nation's advancements in arcane composition and language. Two things that our own arcane programming is heavily based upon to run our own technology such as the Excelsior guard robots and the newly developed Falchion High Speed Aerial Cruiser.

 

With that out of the way going back to an earlier statement Magi-Technology is, as I have said before, the utilization of powering and using physically complex technology. Magi-technology is primarily for use in areas where the magic energy that flows through this world is the weakest. Through the use of Vashtalia's arcane language mixed with our own mathematical formulae we have created an entire subset of the original source language that not only would make the most of very little magical energy but can actually be used to fuel and power vehicles, weapons systems, even grant basic intelligence to a mechanical construct allowing it to make decisions for itself. It is by this arcane programming language that our Excelsior guard robots are able to act more like partners for the existing live guard forces than mere tools to be exploited and subsequently discarded.

 

Speaking of the Excelsiors I shall explain how the technology works using these robots as an example. However in order for the uninitiated who may be reading this paper to understand this explanation a brief history of Lahnia's arcane history is in order. Since the early days of this nation it is said that the flow of mana energy which is abundant in nearly all other areas of the world had been relatively weak. Whether this was a natural occurrence or the result of our own misuse and destruction of the energy is unknown. Due to this weak flow of mana our ancestors had created and perfected a branch of the arcane sciences known as crystal magic. By embedding magic energy and spells into crystal we were able to conserve the mana energy and not use so much that we are using more than the flow is able to recover. It was this practice which also gave birth to the first magical items and allowed another nation which no longer exists to create the sentient weaponry, two of which belong to the Solem'Cleavu Royal Family in Vashtalia but I seem to be getting a bit off topic here.

 

Use of this crystal magic survived through countless generations before our scholars began to make use of this magic to power basic automata and other simple machines. At first our technology was limited by this practice as a particular machine could only act in accordance with whatever magic was embedded into the crystal powering it. However it wasn't until the arrival of Keith and Elaine Atrial that our research into the field began to make drastic leaps forward. It is widely known that the Atrials found themselves here from another world and it is unknown as to why they stay. Although whether they just don't know how to return or they chose to stay behind by this point that distinction is irrelevant as they seem to be here to stay.

Through the Atrials it was found that we might be able to adapt the Vashtalians' own arcane language to this purpose. I imagine that the Dragons of Vashtalia had only agreed out of a sense of curiosity more than anything else. For a race known to have survived for hundreds of thousands of years if not millions and while they no doubt have seen so much that not very much surprises them they seem to keep hold of a great deal of curiosity when it comes to what we humans choose to occupy our time with. I suppose they find us quaint but it's hard to find offense with that notion when they have actively assisted us with our research by teaching their arcane languages to our scholars and engineers.

 

Back to the topic at hand with the creation of our arcane programming language we were then able to stack various spell effects together creating a complex set of instructions that we are now able to embed in crystal. Thus using our ancestral crystal magic for another purpose which leads us right back to our Excelsior example.

 

The head unit of our Excelsior units are made of a very complex collection of magically imbued crystals utilizing our newly created programming language. Each crystal in the head unit has it's own set of instructions mimicking the human senses such as hearing and sight and to a much more limited effect of touch by linking those crystals with other crystals in the hands and feet. Other crystals still are embedded not only in the head but in the limbs closes to the built in weapons systems of the Excelsiors to make controlling and firing the weapons possible. Other crystals nested within the body store magic energy that it draws in for later use if additional power is needed and yet more are embedded inside it's drive system and linked to the control crystals within it's head to allow it to move and use it's flight functions. Thus the reason for the protective shielding over the head as the crystal magic network in the head area is very delicate. It is these same control crystals that also give the Excelsior intelligence enough to act on it's own if necessary. Fun fact regarding the Excelsior's programmed intelligence: The personal guard unit of our esteemed Weapons' Master Prier Il'Kilan has a prototype upgraded control system allowing it even greater intelligence than it's brethren and although it's loyalty to it's master is unquestioned reports have arisen that sometimes it will effectively talk back to her much to the annoyance of our young weapons master.
